What does the CFA & FitGym have in Common?
Well, more than you would think!
Recently eight Volunteer Fire Fighters at Mt Evelyn CFA decided to throw their considerable talent behind a great cause, the 2014 Melbourne Firefighter Stair Climb, a 28 Storey Stair Climb to the top of Crown Metropol Hotel in the heart of Melbourne.
And whilst they are a fit bunch of men and women, it's always good to be better prepared. So, with that in mind they approached our club in Mt Evelyn and asked if we could help.
"We think it's really important to support our local community, so we were more than happy to get on board" said Dianne Lindner, Fit! Gym's Club Manager. "As a result, Fit! Gym has donated 5 weeks of training, all of which has been designed specifically for these firefighters and their upcoming challenge. And they have been doing all of their training in full structural firefighting clothing and breathing apparatus too! It's caused something of a stir at the gym! Its been great" said Dianne.
The eight members of the Mt Evelyn CFA who are taking part in the climb have set personal targets of raising $343 each, in honor of the 343 fire fighters who lost their lives in 9/11.
The inaugural Firefighter Stair Climb takes place on Sunday 7th September at the Crown Metropol Hotel and aims to raise $100,000 for The Alfred Hospital Burns Unit. So get behind your local CFA and cheer them on if you see them at the gym. Donations will be welcome too, and you can donate or find our more information on the event at:
